Adidas pay compensation over faulty football boots
12:56:00 Tuesday 7th April 2009In a rare case, a Sunday League footballer has won a four-figure compensation payout from sports shoe manufacturer, Adidas, after he suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon when wearing a pair of the firm’s football boots.
The accident happened during a game 18 months ago, when a stud on the Adidas Predator Pulse boots broke, causing the claimant’s foot to twist - rupturing the tendon. The man’s leg was put in a cast and he had to undergo a long process of physiotherapy following the injury.
He wrote to Adidas, explaining what had happened and was offer £50 and a new pair of boots by way of compensation. Dissatisfied with this offer, he consulted to sport injury lawyers, cromercrawley, who negotiated an out-of-court settlement for the footballer.
Comercrawley lawyer, Emma Crawly, says it was rare for such a large firm to make a payout to an amateur footballer, but in this case, the claimant was very experienced and knew there was a fault with the boot.
She says people should not be worried about making a claim if they have been injured by football boots. “A lot of people might not bother to complain when they suffer an injury, but Mike had been playing football for 20 years and knew there was something different with these boots,” she added.
